In Gurren Lagann Imaishi Hiroyuki once again demonstrates that
great animation, with designs that could otherwise be considered dull,
can, with perfect consistency and fluentness become, a masterpiece of
art. It`s not just pleasing to the eye, it makes you grip to your chair
in amazement.
Another amazing point is the typographic and calligraphic quality in this
anime. Every single title screen and eyecatch, as well as the logo, show a
very pushed modern typographic style, yet rooted in traditional methods.
This is not smart use, It`s revolutionary creation.
The characters are all at first very weak, but they manage to change and
grow up to amazingly strong characters, even reaching the state where
death is not a limit anymore.
The last few episodes are just a marveling phonic explosion.
Gurren Lagann`s story tries to convince
both its characters and the viewer that there is no limit to the power
of evolution, the power which man embodies best.
The idea is simple: against all odds, a group of people will manage
to become the savior and most powerful entity of the universe, using
the power of their drills!
This might sound dumb, but it actually is a fairly interesting metaphor
of the way nature evolved, piercing through every obstacle with raw power,
in the same way a plant can break the hardest concrete!
In the end, all that matters is to have enough will to evolve and become
stronger, for the sake of survival.
And Gurren Lagann pushes that concept far, very far. It actually pushes to
the far boundaries of imagination, to the level of power where one can manipulate
the universe, God`s level.
In every way this is the ultimate story, from the bottom pits to the level of god.
A frightening race to "pierce the heavens"!
I believe it entered the pantheon of anime.

That`s the way everything flows in that fabulous display of creativity.
Flowing at an increasing and frightening rhythm,
it ends up in a cataclysmic and galactic crash of absolutely unbelievable size...
Knowing the path and walking the path are two very different things,
and Gurren Lagann absolutely proves it. You have to watch it to believe it.
This is a story of such grandeur, that it managed to pierce the amazingly high level of affects Evangelion gave.
That story will unfold in front of you like a bright star,
in such firmament that it burns as brightly and as intensely as all the other stars united!

From the start to the end, every single frame shows a true knowledge and expertise of animation.

To understand that even such a hopeful ending means someone has to stop, to let the others climb up to where he went.
